History
In the summer of 1946, Bro. Johnnie Barrett and several workers from East Athens Baptist Church met with people of this community to discuss the possibility of building a church. We immediately began having Sunday School every Sunday afternoon at 3 PM on Johnson Drive under some trees. During the winter months, we met in different homes in the community. After a few meetings, the Johnson Drive Sunday School was organized.
The Lord blessed us and made a way for us to build the basement of our first church building. On March 1947, the Rev. H.R. Burnley, pastor of East Athens Baptist Church, met with us in our basement for the purpose of organizing a missionary baptist church to be known as Johnson Drive Baptist Church. A large number of people were present at this meeting. The doors of the church were opened for membership and 24 came forward with letters and three for baptism which made a total of 27 charter members.
